ABOUT THE PARADE

Imagine: it is a dark November evening and the streets of the city centre of Groningen are illuminated by a magnificent procession of light sculptures. You see people of all ages and backgrounds walking side by side with self-created artworks that softly light up. The parade moves through the city, accompanied by music and performances that create a magical atmosphere. The light plays on the facades, and spectators watch in amazement. On the Grote Markt the procession ends in a festive gathering where everyone shares a feeling of pride and solidarity.

We invite all Groningers to create the most enchanting light sculptures in one of our workshops under the guidance of professional artists. Experience is not important; before you know it, you will have created a beautiful work of art together and will be walking in the Sunnemeerten Parade on November 8, 2025. The theme this first year is GROUND.

Inspiration from Utrecht

The Sunnemeerten Parade is inspired on the Sint Maartenparade in Utrecht, where it has been organized for a long time now. Watch the 2024 aftermovie below and experience what we are going to do in Groningen!

For everyone

With the Sunnemeerten Parade we bring people from all walks of life closer together and give them a stage to share their talent with the city. Our parade is about sharing and connection, in the spirit of Saint Martin, the patron saint of Groningen.

We invite all residents of the municipality of Groningen to participate. From young to old, experienced or inexperienced - everyone can participate!

When?

On November 8 2025, we will walk through the center of Groningen at the beginning of the evening with our light parade. In September we will start with our workshops.
