The light sculptures are an important part of the Sunnemeerten Parade. They are made of rice paper, willow branches and pit reed. Making a light sculpture is easier than you think.
With masking tape (known as painter's tape) you attach the willow twigs and the pit reed to each other. Then you attach the lights in the 'frame' and the paper can be glued on. You do this with a mixture of wood glue and water. The wood glue makes the sculpture water-resistant, so even if it rains in the parade your sculpture will be preserved.

At five locations in Groningen we organize workshops where the large light sculptures are created. In addition, we invite various groups and schools to make smaller light objects.
